Odds and Ends

It's a mix between a top five and a round up, enjoy:

  • Nothing says love like getting up at 4:30 in the morning to drive your partner to the airport. The lucky bastard gets to go home for 10 days for his sister's wedding, flying first class on Air New Zealand. While he sleeps on his fold down bed of a seat or eats insanely delicious lamb, I will drag my tired ass to school.
  • While trying to hunt down an local yarn store here in Brisbane, I found out that there is a stitch n' bitch around the corner from my house! Tuesday nights from 7-8 I'll be at the "Three Monkey's" cafe, knitting my heart out (current project is a sock, and I managed to turn the heel!).
  • Being a huge fan, this and it is very very needed.
  • Lost is the best show to ever use the web this skillfully, I'm convinced. This summer there has been traveling story of Persophone(Rachel Blake) how did I not know about these videos, as well as the new dharma videos until yesterday?!!?
  • While driving home from Surfer's Paradise we were approached by a squeegee boy with the offer to wash our windshield. Since it would take several light cycles to get the window clean, we declined. All of the sudden someone chucked a CD at our car! The squeegee boy picked it up and said "Would you look at that? Someone chucked a CD at you! Ooh ee, its one of those burned DVD's!" When Jesse saw that it was "The Brothers Grimm" we both were more perplexed that someone has thrown such a bad movie at us, not that they threw a movie in the first place.
  • And lastely, I don't know the first bloody thing about Amanda Bynes, but this pissed the hell out of me. You want to know what looks gross? This!

Champagne Weekend

Thanks everyone for helping me out, I've been insanely busy preparing for the final three weeks of the semester when everything is due. This week it was a presentation and an exam (that I think I bombed, even though I studied for 8 freaking hours).

TFG decided that we needed a weekend away, and planned a surprise trip for our anniversary.

After an hour in the car we arrived in Surfer's Paradise, at this hotel.

It has been 8 months since I slept that well. The duvet, the sheets, the feather pillows. Heaven.

We got there and were allowed to check in early (and because of a room mix up, we got to checkout late!) and the room had champagne and chocolates waiting for us.

We decided to check out their faux beach and reef, and sipped wine and ate gourmet pizzas in the sun. After a hot bath and more wine, we fell asleep! We woke up 15 minutes before our dinner reservation, at Benihana (where dinner is the show and the secret ingredient is salt).

Our lovely dinner left us tired and aching to get back into that lovely bed, so we settled in with more champagne, and room service desserts.

Since our room on the 27th floor (of a 28 floor building) provided us with a lovely view of the ocean, we decided to have a wakeup call in time for the sunrise.
After watching the sun rise from beneath the clouds, it was time for my favourite part of staying at any fancy hotel, the breakfast buffet. I ate some of the most decadent foods that I haven't had in a long time, (like bagels, brie smoked salmon, bacon, hashbrowns, banana bread and mimosas) and spent the rest of the day feeling fat and lazy by the pool, or by the hot tub, or going down the water slide.

Best weekend ever.
God I love TFG.

You Know...
The Nazis had pieces of flair that they made the Jews wear.

I hear they have Heineken, Carlsberg, Budweiser and Zyklon B on tap.

Loz Here
I'm going to try to entice The Knitty One back with gifts.
If I'm not mistaken, this t-shirt is exactly in line with her beliefs.

This dirty liberal is taking a break.

Ah yes, those dirty liberals are at it again.

So I was gonna write a post about how I enjoyed this article that my mum sent me from the LA Times. I appreciated this portion especially (on the topic of family planning):

This is our decision, our sense of what is right, our individual accountability. It's what I think of when I hear that amorphous term "pro-choice," the choice to live as I see fit, to make decisions and deal with the consequences. That's what the ongoing debate over reproductive freedom misses: that you can't legislate morality, that being an adult means measuring pros and cons, compromising, deciding what you can bear and what you can't. In the end, it's a matter of personal, as opposed to social, conscience, a conversation we each must have with ourselves.
...
We live in a culture that doesn't want to own up to this, that wants some vaguely parental-style authority — God, the government, even science — to tell us what to do. We live in a culture that doesn't want us to grow up, that wants policymakers to do the intellectual and emotional heavy lifting so we don't have to wrestle with the ambiguities.

As I was searching for this article to let you all know about it, I came across this...
some of my favourite quotes from this all out hate-fest?

Birth control pills kill a woman's hormones and is poison for her body. Those are the facts!
- Ah yes, be careful swinging your "facts" around cause they can get away with the right's movement to eliminate those from science.
Abortion is the sacrement of liberals religion.
-Ah you forgot something, liberals are godless or did you forget that?

When they aren't campaigning for terrorists, the Left these days seems to be on an "I loved my abortion" kick. This piece is a variant on that theme.
- Ah yes, Liberals just LOVE terrorists and abortions. It's getting harder and harder to hide our devil horns.

Is recreational sex between married couples now a bad thing? Must all sexual relations between married couples now be specifically to have children?

My wife thinks so. As probably do a lot of women.
-how sad for him, someone get this man a lapdance, STAT.

194 comments. All like this.
How lovely.
I'm going to go watch "The Daily Show: Global Edition" and guess what? Australia doesn't censor, so Jon can say "fuck" all he wants.

HA!
This still cracks me up.

Remember this? I do still want to have his babies, but when I heard about this
It made me giggle with girlish glee.
If you want to watch part 2, go here.

Her Tits Are On My List

powered by ODEO
My ode to Tits... Parental advisory on the opening song.

Philosophy
I have to take a course in philosphy for my class, and it is driving me nuts.
We are debating what you should when (as a principal) you find out a girl is pregnant.
One woman insists that if you don't kick her out, you will send the message that teenage pregnancy is OK to the student body.

Now I know I'm supposed to engage in adult and intelligent conversation, but I really just want to call her a stupid bitch.

BIFF
The Brisbane International Film Festival came to a close last night. TFG and I saw 9 feature films and 7 shorts.
I'm le tired of movies.

TFG however being the film nerd that he is has decided to review all the films (short reviews).

If you like film, or if you just plain like me, then check out round 1 and round 2

I Got Nothin.
TFG and I have been attending the Brisbane International Film Festival for the past two weeks, and this morning we took in a series of short films about the women of Islam.

This Film has left me speechless.

A short film that describes the tough life of women who migrate up and down the Pontus chain of mountains. They carry everything they own on their backs, while the men (seemingly) drink tea and dance in the night.

Off to the races.

First to get a bra
First to get her period
First to figure out how to work a damn tampon
First to kiss
First to have sex.

First to get engaged....

Girls compete. We all like to think we are part of a sisterhood but the truth of the matter is that we are all in competition with each other in one way or another.
Recently my friend got engaged and while happy for her, in the back of my mind I could hear myself saying "that lucky bitch".
All of the sudden I had put my relationship under a microscope and wonder why my fantastic relationship with TFG was suddenly so defective.
It's pathetic and depressing.
So why is it the case? Why do women ache for the big day?
Is the multi-million dollar industry of weddings and all the bullshit it comes with?
I would like to believe I'm not affected by marketing, but we all are.

I blame it on societal expectations and conversations with family and friends.
It doesn't matter where I go now, it's as if TFG and I have finished cooking and after 4 years of mixing our lives together it is expected by our families that we should be getting married. Every family gathering I attend I am asked at least once when he and I will be getting engaged.
As if it is anybody's business.

What gets to me is that no one asks TFG why he hasn't grown some balls and proposed, because no one expects him to think about these things.

If I didn't have people nagging me all the time about "when my big day" would happen I probably wouldn't give a crap.

So here is my question for you

Did you feel any pressure to get engaged and have the perfect wedding?

How do you shrug it all off and be happy with what you have?!

alrighty
I caved.
you can buy an "I'm a slut..." t-shirt on my cafepress store

When Will We All Admit that Abstinence Only Education Doesn't Work?!!?

This is a t-shirt that is available from cafepress.

What the hell does this even mean?!!?
What kind of message is it to young girls (or boys) about sexuality? Are we telling Jane Doe its okay for Johnny from down the street to put his penis in her pooper but not her vagina because that will make her chaste?!
Do you think Jane and Johnny will use a condom?

Why don't we just be a little more honest about this then shall we and let them all wear t-shirts like this:

An Ode to Ubie

powered by ODEO

I am having way too much fun with these to leave it off at this, so there will be more, but not for a while.
This one for ubie has a few songs and because the odeo's are made completely in through a flash applet of theirs it doesn't have the same flair I would like it to. I might start making them on the comp and then upload them... we shall see.

So enjoy the ode to ubie, she is super fantastique and I can't stop singing her praises.

Also, there are two other posts below that got caught up in the weekend lull, so SCROLL bitches!

If I ever...
wear an apron, I want it to look like this.

Jurassic 5 - Work It Out

Possibly the best music video I've ever seen.
For better quality check it out on the Jurassic 5 website.

An ode to nick.
I hope you all enjoy the first of many odes.
It was hard to do since you have only one take and you cant edit chunks out.
That and getting the music on meant wrapping my speaker around my ipod headphones.

Post 399 and Queen Nerdalina
My next post will be 400, any suggestions about what I should do?

______________________________________

So my Nerd-dom was announced to all the land last week and I think I might have to go join some sort of pocket protector club at the rate my reputation at my school goes from "random-girl-people-seem-to-like" to "nerdalina-the-queen-of-nerdonia-who-can-do-all-my-work-for-me".
Fantastic.
It all started last Tuesday when I went to my first lecture for my Practical Experience class. We all found out that we are expected to create an e-portfolio, something I had already done for my computing course. I was obviously delighted at this because it meant less work for me.

Then it happened. My professor announced my royalty (and the 7 other members of my court):
"could the following students please stand up? Miss Knit... Take a good look at these students as they will be able to help you with all your questions while creating your portfolio."
Not even a heads up. There I am, standing in front of over a hundred people with bad hair. gah.

Then it got better, this week he decided to show the entire class my profile, on the big screen.

Now I can't get a coffee without people asking me questions.

I'm going into the "nerd protection program".
