Why is food such an important thing in our lives? We bring food to people to welcome them to the neighbourhood, we bring food to those that are mourning, we celebrate with food for weddings, graduations, birthdays. Everything revolves around food. Eve Ensler interviewed an African woman who said "Americans have the worst relationship with food. You have more than you could ever possibly eat, and either you eat too much or too little".
Advertising teaches us that we should deprive ourselves by eating low-cal low-fat low-nutrition snack cakes. We should pump our bodies full of the latest alternative to sugar, never really enjoying what we eat, as it is only a substitute for what we really want. Yet at the same time we read articles saying how we should indulge ourselves every once and a while, because "were worth it".
What are we stupid? I mean we must be to buy all of these processed foods, to stuff ourselves and our children full of snack cakes and potato chips and candy bars. Doesn't it seem a little wierd that a Twinkie NEVER GOES BAD?!?!?! Why is it that advertisers manage to convince us that eating this crap is a good idea!
So recap....
1) We buy food that is bad for us, unnatural processed crap that should never meet our stomach.
2) We get fat from eating said food.
3) We buy even more processed and chemically enhanced food to make us skinny.
I'm reading a great book called "Deadly Persuasion" by Jean Kilbourne, all about how the advertising industry is killing the world.
If you haven't seen "Super Size Me".... do... it got me off beef, and on the road to becoming a vegetarian...
I want to run away, to a small country with no MacDonalds and lots of whole grains and food nature intended us to eat in order to make us strong and healthy.....
But I would probably miss Diet Coke and M and M's pretty damn fast.

I KNOW!! So scary! I mean a fat that your can't break down.. it just sits there, festering causing other cells to break and mutate and then the dreaded cancer!
BTW that didn't mean to come out condesending.. just very vehemently agreeing!
