Beyond Fat Camp
Apparently weight loss camps in the summer are not enough for some families. According an article I read today overweight children can now be banished to a boarding school as well. In the article it explains that at this school students are restricted to 1,200 calories a day and 12 grams of fat. The school website boasts of students losing 150 in 9 months.
So there you go parents of the "overweight generation", for a mere $5,800 per month you too can have the skinny child you always dreamed of.

That makes me throw up. I'll bet most of those kids are fat because they've been poorly parented. It should come as no surprise, then, that those parents choose to deal with the problem by sending their little fatties to boarding school.

Sigh.

Happy Elvismas!

You want to know whats even scarier? they aren't licensed medically or with social services.
A lot of the courses aren't necessarily taught by qualified high school teachers either.

and i bet the kids who get sent there really feel valued and validated by their parents, for the people they are.

"and don't you DARE come back til you're not such a lardarse!"

i realise childhood obesity is a problem that parents face, but seriously... sending the kids away to get "fixed" is barbaric.

And I'm sure once they return from this school, the weight will stay off. Because the reasons they became obese in the first place will have melted away...

And you know what? 1200 calories may be starvation for some of those kids! First, complete metabolic testing should be done to see how many calories are burned while at rest, then an eating plan designed for 500 calories less than that reading. It's just a little machine you breathe into for 10 minutes! And low fat doesn't necessarily mean healthy...there are so many, many things wrong with this concept that I seriously want to cry for these kids...not the least of which is that their worth as human beings should not be defined by what they weigh!
