Back to school..
Back to school...
To prove to dad that I'm not a fool...

First day of school!!! It was kinda lame to be honest. The prof's seem great, but we were supposed to sign up for courses and get our student cards, and neither of those things happened. Stupid computers were all down.
Found out I can use the university's dial-up, and there is a campus near my place where I can study, take up books and get wireless access.
Standing here in the library, debating if I want to either keep going into the suburbs to the mall to buy sheets, or go back into downtown and pass out with my box of wine..

decisions decisions..

I was unfortunately sick in bed for Australia day, and the air conditioning broke in our hostel.

Woke up on Friday morning with TFG looking at me, fuming mad "We are getting out of this hostel TODAY!!"

Poor thing hadn't slept all night between the heat and the drunk brits coming in and out all night.

So we moved a day early, packing all our things in a cab and are much happier in our chill hippie hostel in the neighbourhood of our new flat...

Getting to know the neighbourhood, not as many internet cafe's, and its more expensive, so less chatting...
and out of the business district so no free wireless...

Can't wait to move, and school starts on monday!!

searching webmd for Lyme disease..
Woke up this morning with a sore throat, headache and general pain.
No bites though.
Today we rented a car to run around the town, and get TFG's resumes into all the schools. The system here for substitute teaching is quite different, and each individual school keeps a list of substitutes and call them when they need them. This means that if you want to teach you have to go around to all the schools and introduce yourself, hence the rental car.

The kicker is that TFG will get paid 51 dollars an hour! I got paid 15! so wrong, but oh so right when ya think that one day of work would pay our rent for the week!

The day ended well with me finally getting what I had been aching for since I got here, a beautiful green salad.

Still feeling shitty though, hoping that will go away soon!

Also the whole "having a car" thing was mint, and we got to see the ocean...
We will have to seriously re-consider this whole "no car thing"

The no cable thing can stay... but the travelling we could do with a good camping set..

Been getting hormonal lately, tired of the hostel, miss my family, miss my blog family.

I'm such a baby.

Things started off poorly this morning…

Hmmm that is a bad way to start a story, lets go back to last night…

We went grocery shopping and bought pasta and tomato sauce from the ::gulp:: dollar store. I thought that an onion and pesto would save the sauce but there was more sugar in there then tomatoes, and it tasted like barbeque sauce.

I got depressed. Too many nights in a hostel, trying to cook while keeping cheap food in the hostel kitchen lest it be stolen (someone drank half our juice!) and having to carry down my shitty little metal cup and plastic plate and peeing down the hall had gotten to me.

TFG decided we needed to go out to the bar downstairs, as it is the only one busy on Monday nights, and it’s cheap. So off we go, down to the bar in hopes of meeting other travelers. We start drinking beer at 7 dollars a “jug” (read liter and a half) and get invited to a huge table of aussies and a nice French girl. We get to talking and drinking… and drinking “snakebites” and talking. And the party grows; more Canadians join us, and a few navy men on shore leave from the Ronald Regan here in town.

As French girl gets drunk, she loses her English and as I get drunk I forget my French, so communication broke down. She tells me that when she is drunk, she likes to dance. “Good times!!” I think, I’ve gone dancing before with girlfriends, and it’s a fun time. TFG had gone for more drinks and when I left to go dancing, and when he came back he asked our new aussie friend where we had gone:

AussieBoy: Oh Knitty and French went dancing. I didn’t know you and Knitty swing..

TFG: Excuse me?

AussieBoy: Well French is a Lesbian..

(a fact I was quickly figuring out)

Good times…

The night ended quietly, with TFG going back to the hostel room alone.

This morning however, things weren’t looking very good. One too many snake bites were biting me back and I didn’t relish the thought of going down to the loud kitchen for instant coffee and white bread with nutella.

Then I saw it.
It was in the bed
With me.
And in my drunk stupor I had fallen asleep without bottoms.

It was a tick.
An evil, sick disease spreading tick. IN MY BED!

We found out that on the first floor they had bed bugs, biting ones.
We decided to ask for new sheets. Thinking that one tick was gross, but he probably didn’t have friends.
We got the new sheets and went to make the bed.
The new sheets were supposed to be clean.
They were supposed to be washed
They must not have been washed well
Because they were covered in other peoples hair.
Other peoples pubic hair.

Hostel living is making me hostel.
We check out on Friday and to a different hostel (a much quieter, cheaper, roomier hostel close to the new digs) and then its off to the new snazzy APARTMENT!!

Also in Knitty News... The transcripts are officially fixed, my exam was lost, into the abyss of the university, and they are going to re-weight my grade, so I come out of these courses with an A- and an A+...

More to come, and pictures from the new apartment next week!

are we crazy?
We have two choices in looking for apartments, the suburbs which are much cheaper and well, boring with little transport options.

Downtown has EVERYTHING great transport, all the entertainment and nice neighbourhoods to walk around, but they are pricey.

So do we get the little studio apartment in the suburbs for 100$ a week, or do we go for broke (literally) and get the beautiful fully furnished apartment downtown close to transport, shops and the river for 300$?

I've never done this before (look for an apartment, make decisions of such a manner), I'm leaning towards the downtown place since I figure I can only live in Australia once I might as well not live in a place that looks exactly like my old suburb in california.

so freaked.

Pictures, Movies!!
Finally some pictures!!

This is the screen that showed me in korea where I needed to go to catch my flight! Thank goodness for flight numbers!

These birds are everywhere! like pigeons! they are called Ibis and you better not feed them!

All the trees seem to be littering the city with beautiful flowers, all strange to me..

And now some movies!!

This one was taken on the first day I got here, after whirlwind ride on the "CityCat" high speed ferry that takes you all over the city..We did try to feed an Ibis, but much to TFG's dismay, they wouldn't eat out of his hand.

This one was taken on Friday, after yet another day of walking and applying for apartments.
We found a cheap grocery store and made a pizza, it was only $2!!
It was also disgusting!
I think next time we will splurge and get the $4 one..

Nick- I have been stealing wireless from the hostel but it's never strong enough to upload pictures, and I've been quite rude in msn convo's because I cut out all the time

Todd- I am less of drunk now that I'm poor, but I don't mind the joking at all.

Loz- The rain has been insane here! then the one day I think it is gonna rain and I dont' bring my sun screen with me I burn (even though I applied it before leaving like I do every day) then today we decided to go to the brisbane beach and its raining!

Ubie- Everyday, SPF 30, still burnt my shoulder though.

Thanks to everyone for all the comments.. more to come...

Sweet Merciful Crap It's HOT!
I haven't experienced heat like this in a really really long time.

Showering twice a day is a must, and the hostel is getting a little tedious. We are a little more comfortable now that we have some groceries and can cook there, making it much more affordable!

We found a beautiful place in South Brisbane and are keeping our fingers crossed that our application will get accepted on Monday, next time I come to the internet cafe I will bring my laptop and pictures will be uploaded!

I'm am officially in love, with Brisbane, with Australia, with TFG.

I never want to leave.

Moving on up
Well, after one night in the hostel I am pretty much done with the romance of it all.

The room is tiny, the bed is uncomfy and people all around us are slamming doors. We found a wirless connection, we are so sneaky!

My transcripts have been fixed, the F is now an A-.... stil waiting for my other exam grade though.. not cool!

Orientation starts in a week. Emailed a dozen relators about apartments, hope to run around town today to find a place!

This town is beautiful, any place with a river through the city and a cheap public boat to see all the sights is just fabulous!!!!

Pictures to come...

Safe and Sound..
I arrived on time and with no worries at customs. Slept most of the flight from Korea so I was well rested when I got here and not too jet lagged.

Been in this country less then 4 hours and I already have a cell phone.
More to come when i don't have to watch my computer time rack up at the internet cafe

Knitty kitty

I've landed
in korea.
My parents spoiled me and sent me here on business class (on points).
I'm ruined for flying.

Hope everyone is well. I'm off to spend another ten hours on a plane.

Let Those Freak Flags Fly!
My freak flag today is my hair.

I can rarely keep it very long and when I do I end up drying it out from hair dye and such.

I've managed to get it long enough to touch my shoulders, and when my hair dresser does it (like in the pic) it's all slick and pretty... I don't have the patience to blow dry it all so I end up with my poofy hair, and its tied up by mid afternoon..

Maybe if I had a flat iron...
then i could have bad hair and minor burns on my neck and forehead...

Today has been nice and chill... new pedicure, doing some actual knitting!

good times...

Those Alito hearings are getting uuuuuuuugly!!
Both sides aren't coming up roses either.

My bags aren't packed, I'm not ready to go..

My bags seem small.

Part of me never really got excited about Australia. I got fake excited when people asked me about it, but otherwise it's been business as usual.
Part of me thought I couldn't pull off a higher level Computer Science course, that I would fail it and my acceptance to the university would be rescinded.

I got the exam grade today, 85%.

No more excuses. No more possibility of last minute backing out.
I leave on Monday.
I should probably pack.

I tried.
I tried to find a picture from Scrubs where Elliot says "If we have sex one more time today I will need a vagina transplant" with the picture of the little cooler that says "vagina" on it, but no such luck.

He is here, and I am happy... We are talking ear to ear grin all the time.

He makes me feel smart
and pretty
and special.
I know, I know, I shouldn't need a man to do that for me!
But he does it in a way that shows he loves me without making me feel dependent, and thats just fantastic.

This post will probably come down before he can see what a dork I am or I realize what an awful picture of the two of us this is (shut up, nick!) which ever comes first.

We spent sunday walking around Santa Barbara, a place just this side of paradise.

And my Freak Flag is Flying:
Lingerie, why?
I will admit I own a couple teddy's and some lacy bras, but have you ever worn a push up bra under a t-shirt? you get the dreaded double-boob! no good!
then you have the really lacy numbers that you really can only wear with nothing else on, and then you are only wearing it for about 10 minutes (20 if its a night "all about you") and you know much one of those cost from Victoria's Secret? I could buy new kickass headphone with that money.
I buy my bra's at (gasp!) Target. Gillian and O'Malley, 10$ a piece, light padding.
That's one up from the white cotton hanes numbers.
And my bra's and panties never match, but they are colorful.

Puch ya in the face.

One theme I carried out in 2005 was vagina revocation, and that worked well. One problem I did run into was that it seemed harsh, and only a few women in the world seemed to really deserve it.
I decided to adopt a new means of revenge on the enemies of...well... lets just say the enemies of all things good.

I give you, the punching nun.

Members of society, be they people I know or not, that piss me off will get a punch in the face, by this nun.

I do not in fact own a punching nun doll, but I really really want one.

But hey, how about one last vagina removal for this piece of human garbage?
(Thanks Ubie for letting me know about this, resulting in my ga-vomiting)
there should be no reason for her to continue having one.

Le Tired...

Packing takes it out of me.

8 plastic bins, all perfectly stackable.

One bed, covered in clothes.

I know I don't need to pack 5 white long sleeved t-shirts.

I just really want to.

The leak was found.
It wast he dishwasher after all.
My father searched online for replacement parts for about an hour, gave up and went to Lowe's to buy a new dishwasher.
It's sleek and quiet.
I tried to never complain about the lack of water, tried to think about how lucky we were to live in a house with running water, be able to hire a plumber and buy a new dishwasher all in one day, without being worried about money.

It was still a relief when I could wash my hands after going to the bathroom.
And getting to shower.

I leave on the 16th
TFG gets here Saturday Night.

I will be scarce for a while.

drop me an email if you want to get in on the co-travel-blog that will be run by TFG and myself.

I've never been so happy to see that ass.

Thank god for plumbers...

they are all high tech with ultrasound and such so the brand new tile in the kitchen won't have to be completely ripped up in search for the leak..

and no, his ass wasn't hanging out.

I have a dog.
And he is precious.

My parents bought me presents...
" Pack your shit, cause we ain't mailing it to you."

When I come back from Oz in 11 months, I will be quickly turning around and moving to Canada.

My parents don't want me leaving my room full of my crap, hence the bins.

I don't blame them for the forwardness though, cause I have a tendency to pack at the last minute and leave for months on end with my room a disaster.

I'm gonna need more bins..
And garbage bags.

I hope everyone had a happy new year.
We have no running water due to a huge leak that has caused mold (which I am very allergic to) in our kitchen.
It's good times around here, good times.
